Mobile technology is revolutionizing how organizations engage with their end users. More than 96% of the world’s population has access to a mobile phone, meaning it is now possible to reach nearly every single person on the planet.

And yet 3 billion people living in emerging markets still lack access to relevant, timely, and engaging information in their local languages, and their voices remain underheard. The organizations that serve them lack the technology and capacity to reach them, and many are unaware of the power of mobile technology to meet their organizational goals.

Human Network International (HNI) and VOTO Mobile are joining forces to catalyze a mobile movement, connecting non-profits, governments, and businesses to the people they serve using the digital technologies they have in their pockets. Our new social enterprise – coming in Quarter 1 2017 –envisions a world where all people have access to the information they need to make decisions for healthy, prosperous lives.

With more than 8 million people reached to-date, we are well on our way to meeting our goal of reaching 100M people by 2021.

As one of the first employees of our new joint entity, you will be joining more than 100 colleagues working to amplify the voice of the underheard through mobile technology. You will be asked to problem-solve on a daily basis, work to develop yourself and those around you, and help shape a young, ambitious company that is powering a global movement.

About the Role

The Regional Director is one of the most senior positions within the organization: they look after our holistic success in their region. After establishing ourselves as the leading provider in Africa and validating the Asia market, we are excited to grow our impact in the region and expand our in-country presence from 3 to 12. The position is based in any major transportation hub between Kabul and Port Moresby.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coach our growing team of Country Managers (currently in IN, KH and AF).
  •  Lead major business development initiatives: large bilateral-funded partnerships (mostly USAID), complex program design, mobile network operators, etc.
  • Design and implement our Asia country growth strategy, including acquiring anchor partners, and substantial recruitment & onboarding activity.
  • Oversee our compliance and financial planning in the region, including local legal registrations, as well as governance, payroll and tax filings.
  • Build our brand and influence in the major Aid networks in the region.
  • Be a market and technology thought-leader to help us improve our offering.
  • Lead a fair share of organizational-wide strategic initiatives.

Objectives and Key Performance Indicators

For the next three years:

  • Expand our impact in the region to more than 20M people.
  • Grow our revenue per country to ~$1M/country/year.
  • Increase our presence by 1 new country per quarter.
  • Build strong MNO relationships in all countries in the region.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated passion for technology and positive social change.
  • Successful track record in business development.
  • Extensive experience leading large aid projects, and/or country programs.
  • Experience leading and growing a decentralized team.
  • Experience living and working in multiple Asian countries.

Team and Reporting Structure

Reports to the Chief Executive Officer based in Washington DC.
