Job Description

Mobile technology is revolutionizing how organizations engage with people. More than 96% of the world’s population has access to a mobile phone, meaning it is now possible to reach nearly every single person on the planet.

And yet 3 billion people living in emerging markets still lack access to relevant, timely, and engaging information in their local languages, and their voices remain underheard. The organizations that serve them lack the technology and capacity to reach them, and many are unaware of the power of mobile technology to meet their organizational goals.

Human Network International (HNI) and VOTO Mobile are joining forces to catalyze a mobile movement, connecting non-profits, governments, and businesses to the people they serve using the digital technologies they have in their pockets. Our new social enterprise – coming in Quarter 1 2017 –envisions a world where all people have access to the information they need to make decisions for healthy, prosperous lives.

With more than 8 million people reached to-date, we are well on our way to meeting our goal of reaching 100M people by 2021.

As one of the first employees of our new joint entity, you will be joining more than 100 colleagues working to amplify the voice of the underheard through mobile technology. You will be asked to problem-solve on a daily basis, work to develop yourself and those around you, and help shape a young, ambitious company that is powering a global movement.

About the Role

You will be our representative in country and a leader within the M4D movement. Your main role is to ensure that every large development organization knows about our organization and our offerings, to design digital engagement strategies with these organizations, and supervise our service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with partners to design and launch effective mobile engagement projects. This includes building relationships, co-designing projects, preparing budgets, writing concept notes, responding to RFPs, and capacity building.
  • (Country Director) Manage existing projects, team members, and an annual budget >$500k.
  • Manage the 3-2-1 Service, expanding content available, developing commercial partnerships to diversify revenue, and managing relationships with Mobile Network Operators.
  • Represent the organization to national government agencies and ensure organizational compliance with national regulatory bodies.
  • Manage public relations efforts such as the development of annual reports, success stories, press releases and fact sheets.

  • Impact, in terms of 3-2-1 reach and project outcomes

Required Skills

  • English fluency required. French fluency also required for Francophone country placements.
  • Experience living and working in the placement country or region is desirable
  • Experience of 2+ years in: ICT4D sector, business development, tech startup, international NGO, social enterprise, or mobile network operator.
  • Excellent problem solving skills, written and oral communication skills, proposal writing and budgeting skills
  • Demonstrated self-management/entrepreneurial skills; adaptability and resourcefulness.

  • Direct reports upon successful growth of country office

Profile

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French (francophone countries only)
  • Experience living and working in the country or region
  • Experience in: ICT4D, business development, tech startup, international NGO, social enterprise, or mobile network operator
    • Country Director: Leadership experience
    • Country Manager: Work experience with increasing responsibility and promotion
  • Excellent problem solving skills, proposal writing and budgeting skills
  • Demonstrated self-management/entrepreneurial skills; adaptability and resourcefulness.
